KERM — the Research and Remembrance Memorial Centre for Veterans and Fallen of Hellenic Heritage C.L.C. — was established with a clear purpose: to identify, document, preserve and honour the stories of men and women of Hellenic heritage who served in the armed forces of nations around the world. Many of these individuals fought, served and sacrificed far from Greece, wearing different uniforms and serving under different flags, yet carrying with them a common Hellenic heritage. Their stories are often scattered across military archives, family collections, official records, photographs, correspondence and memories that risk disappearing with time.

Through systematic archival research, cooperation with institutions and researchers, family testimony, historical publications, digital preservation and public remembrance, KERM seeks to recover these individual lives and restore them to the historical record. Our work is not limited to recording military service alone. We aim to understand the people behind the uniforms: their origins, their families, their journeys, their experiences in war and peace, and the lasting impact of their service on the communities they came from and the countries they served.

KERM brings together research and remembrance. By preserving these stories and making them accessible to the public, we seek to create a lasting bridge between the Hellenic diaspora, Greece and the wider history of the nations in which these men and women served. Each biography, document, photograph and testimony contributes to a broader historical record — one that recognises the global presence and contribution of people of Hellenic heritage across generations of military service.

Greeks in Foreign Cockpits is one of KERM’s principal research projects and represents the aviation branch of this wider mission. What began as an effort to uncover the stories of Greek and Greek-descended airmen has grown into a continuing programme of historical research, publication and remembrance. Through KERM, this work now forms part of a broader effort to preserve the legacy of Hellenic-heritage veterans and fallen personnel across the air, sea and land services, from the First World War to the present day.

Different uniforms. Different nations. A shared Hellenic heritage — and a shared duty to remember.

Aviation History is our passion. We constantly read books with amazing stories about pilots and their planes from World War 1 until our days. While reading about these air wars and the men who fought them over the globe, Greek names are a common view inside the books pages. 20 years ago, our team decided to research those Greek and Greek parentage brave airmen and make them known on their ancestores land, Greece. Our research produced an impressive amount of data and info for all these youngsters who went to war for freedom and the outcome was the publication of our two volumes entitled as 'Greeks in Foreign Cockpits', in 2014 and 2017. We will keep publish books in this series, although the need to present them publicly led us to the creation of this website. We will never be able to cover all of them in our books so we decided to save their stories here, were everyone will read and be proud of them and their achievements. We were always been intrigued by 'Greeks in Foreign Cockpits'. Taking on this task gave us the opportunity to conduct serious research which wouldn't be complete without the assistance of the airmen families and fellow researchers around the world. Our motto, is that 'Research is a Dynamic Sport'. We keep searching and cross checking every available information. It's amazing that we still find information for pilots we thought we had cover them completely in our books. I’m thrilled about the result, and look forward to the next challenge with everyone onboard!
