Τhe Bomber 'Boys' were always the pilots who were proud for their works results. And of course they always were in direct confrontation with the Fighter guys. No wonder why their motto was: "Fighter pilots make movies, Bomber pilots make history." The strategic impact of the bombing missions during the wars is unquestionable. Hundreds of Greek Americans entered the USAAF Bomber Command and many others followed same routes and joined Commonwealth Air Forces' Bomber Commands. Flying heavy bombers like B-17s, B-24s and Lancasters and medium ones like B-25s B-26s and Blenheims, they raided every part of the Axis territories and destroyed numerous targets. Many of them paid the ultimate price but their main objective has been achieved. They brought us freedom. Their stories are equally interesting as those of their fighter colleagues and the acts of heroism and selflessness are numerous. Hellenic heritage bomber pilots were on the first line of attacks and many of them achieved remarkable feats...and contributed to bring the war to a quicker end. As Roosevelt said: "Hitler built a fortress around Europe, but he forgot to put a roof on it." That phrase describes perfectly their tactical value, not only during WW2, but also for all the wars that followed...
